Mosaic

Is mosaic an ancient or modern art form? Either way, it’s not exactly a quick process!  But I’ve fallen in love with it! I’m fascinated by the arrangement of the tesserae, the rhythm, and the textural effects!
What do you think?

The buzzard

Panoramic mosaic depicting a seascape with two birds (pigeons?) in the center-left, seen in profile: one in front with a white head and red beak, the other behind in light brown. The sea is suggested by horizontal bands of blue, white, and gray, while a colorful sky of yellow, orange, and red appears in the upper right. Numerous vertical tubes of vibrant colors (red, orange, blue, brown) run across the work from top to bottom, creating a grid effect. Clouds are depicted in the shape of flowers. Sand is suggested by beige and cream tesserae, and brown rocks border the edges.

Relief mosaic technique using various materials: stone, colored glass, and three-dimensional elements.

The cage of habits

A panoramic mosaic depicting a woman's face, facing forward with closed eyes, composed of small tesserae of off-white, beige, and pale pink marble. Hair is suggested by areas of dark stone with flashes of intense blue, red, and yellow at the edges. A vertical, rust-brown metal pipe runs across the left side of the composition. The outer edges are finished with irregular, rough stones, contrasting with the delicate detail of the central portrait.

Sappho on a bus

The word "Japan" is written in stylized and ornate mosaic letters, outlined in black. Each letter depicts a different landscape, alternating between light and dark for all five letters.

Japan

Photograph showing three aligned and framed square mosaic panels, viewed in perspective. Each piece assembles tesserae of vibrant colors and varied materials, creating a textured relief. On the left, abstract patterns in orange, charcoal gray, and white on a dark background. In the center and on the right, compositions incorporating spiraling ammonite fossils surrounded by fragments of orange, blue, red, and turquoise. The frames vary between light wood and white. The mosaic technique is evident in the assembly of small, irregular fragments.

Small squares

A mosaic depicting two stylized zebras at the center, their black and white stripes formed from precisely assembled, irregular shards interspersed with red and orange swirls that suggest movement. The animal is surrounded by an abstract urban environment composed of brightly colored geometric blocks—red, orange, blue, and yellow—and textured gray surfaces. Circular orange and green shapes appear in the upper right, while fragments of glass or ceramic add relief and brilliance to certain areas. The composition plays on contrasts of form and color to create a dynamic visual rhythm.
